Session Description - 19 May

Surrender to life - the most active act of living?

09:00-10:30 | Chris Rajendram & Anna Garbacz

When we want to protect ourselves, we exclude some people or stop talking to someone. Is it possible to connect at the same time protect our emotions and energy? Let's learn how to do that.

Connection Vs Protection

10:45-12:15 | Ramanusha Poopalaratnam

Christlin Rajendram will share how we can Surrender to LIFE as the most active approach to living. A Q&A opportunity for participants to be a part of this dialogue. Ania Garbacz will facilitate the dialogue.

Returning to Presence

13:15-14:45 | Samuel Odhiambo & Mereidi Pibernik

We will explore what prevents us from being present with what is.How can NVC enable us to stay connected in such times.

Empowering Connection in Parent-Child Relationships

15:00-16:30 | Summer Li

Explore how to shift from control to collaboration using principles of Nonviolent Communication. By sharing power with our children—rather than exerting power over them—we can foster motivation, ease daily struggles, and build a relationship grounded in trust, joy, and mutual respect.

Expanding your empathic reach through Metaphors

18:00-19:30 | Pernille Plantener

When talking about feelings doesn't create connection, we need other colors on our palette. Using metaphors is one of them.

Ask Roxy anything about NVC

19:30-20:30 | Roxy Manning

What are your queries? What are your doubts? What do you find interesting? What are you curious about when exploring NVC?

Session Description - 20 May

What Does Your Heart Really Want?

09:00-10:30 | Reena Ginwala & Erna Smeekens

Is it hard to hear your heart's longing? Are you scared to ask your heart what it wants? Let's listen to our heart and sit with it's longing with the energy of possibilities. What could happen then?

From Criticism to Self-Empowerment

10:45-12:15 | Eva Rambala

How do you respond to criticism? Do you use criticism as fuel for self-empowerment? Want to give it a try?

Challenging Anger's reputation. Nonviolent approach to anger

13:15-14:45 | Anna Garbacz, PhD

What reputation does anger have in your mind? How does it contribute to the way you respond to anger? A Nonviolent approach to anger helps you to connect to the source of inner power within yourself in daily life situations.

Nonviolent Activism for Liberation

15:00-16:30 | Miki Kashtan

In this session I plan to offer some basic framing about nonviolence, linking it to NVC, and then addressing whatever challenges people are facing in their respective contexts related to applying the principles of nonviolence and the practices of NVC.

Building Compassionate Responses to Community Conflict

18:00-19:30 | Duke Duchscherer

We will explore and practice how to hold care for all needs when conflict arises in a group / community. Bring your conflicts!

MAIN INTENTION

Sri Lanka – Island of Adventure and Hope

Chris and Ramanusha have been sharing NVC in Sri Lanka since past 20 years… and the seeds sown to apply NVC to deepen impact in social and systemic change are growing with the political environment shifting in positive directions AND we have about 35 pre-registrations from Sri Lankans!! Having said that, we need support for 75% participants from Sri Lanka over and above the hope for participation from a few from Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan,Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon !

This is not a regular fund raiser, it is an invitation to an opportunity to consider redistribution of resources as action from personal integrity for a world that works for all! Here's why.

These dreamers are taking radical action on the ground… few have lost their job due to their integrity; some have chosen not to pursue the material goals or even stepped out of high paying jobs - to follow their passion and commitment to social and systemic change. For example, the first woman crime investigator, mediator offers her services as an honorary member of Reconciliation Circles recognized by the new government …

A documentary film maker can easily earn a modest living by making advertisement films and other reels for social media to push unsustainable business goals but she chooses to walk into villages, communities and use her skills to bring stories to the fore and support actions that shift the status quo which compromises lives and the natural habitat on this beautiful island.

Currently, the political environment is open to inputs from the civil society and some government officials have also registered for the IIT while taking leave without pay as they realize the urgency of learning NVC skills.Would you like to join us to manifest a Sri Lanka that takes radical steps with mutual cooperation and NVC integrated dialogues within the socio-political system? If yes, here’s how:

· Be our allies; contribute your precious time and resources to support participation of these courageous individuals as they learn NVC and take radical steps to build a nation that thrives.

Heartfelt expressions from some participants, sharing their intentions and motivations for attending the IIT

"This training will enhance my knowledge to work for children and youth as well as develop the communication skills among children and youth to promote peace in the country."

“I host a weekly community gathering based on principles of systems centered theory and nonviolent communication; I would transfer my learning to this community space. I would engage my training knowledge with the international peers with whom I've been informally training for the past 4 years and with my local community members at my weekly gathering as well as at peer discussions with others interested in communication science and group psychology.”

“I am the acting consultant psychiatrist in District General Hospital Mullaitivu. I am conducting workshops on Drama therapy for Mental Health professionals, military personnel and community based organizations in Mullaitivu. One of my main aims is to make psychological preparedness for reconciliation.”

“As I am a religious leader first of prophets I will follow myself. I am working with all the age group there for I have more opportunities to apply the skills of NVC which I learn from the event. I will be very helpful to teach my students and understand them. I can apply the NVC skill to my church members and the society. It will be a life- long treasure to enhance my communication. I have participated in many nonviolence protests for socio-political change. In 2023 I participated at the Malayakam 200 anniversary walk Thalaimannar to Mathale. It is a nonviolent support to the Upcountry tea plantation people who are suffering for 200 year. At the movement I am teaching flute to the younger people. Through this I can reduced their screening time and the unwanted things. In my parish I am teaching to my parishioners to understand other religious perspectives and larger society. If I get more knowledge from the event definitely I can apply to my society where I go.”

“I have received many NVC training programs at the same time I have conducted a number of training for the people. l love NVC that's why my son's name is Marshall. I'm a mediator in my district. I am using NVC Mediation techniques while during the mediation board.”

“I have virtually attended several NVC sessions and is practicing at home and at my work place (which is a micro school for Children and its parents) and in the community work (Inter-faith communities in Sri Lanka, Human Rights and Child Rights advocacy) I pursue. Engaged Buddhism - Bringing Early Buddhist teachings in to daily practise for well being of all sentient beings and environment. Rights-Centric Education - transforming Education and challenge the mainstream education that is not wholesome or fit for purpose for Earth.”
